At midday on August 24, the fourth President’s Cup teed off at Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga. Nearly one hundred golfers turned out, and a short opening ceremony was held before play began.
The tournament again used a handicap-adjusted format, with lower-handicap players conceding strokes to higher-handicap players according to the group’s calculation. Club president Jack Lee said the arrangement lets participants of different levels compete on fairer ground.
Players completed their rounds through a hot afternoon, and thirty advanced to the weekly knockout rounds that decide the finalists.
